caed 500 culmination! (+ experience and what i learned)

caed 500 is a subject we have to pass, whatever our course is, to be able to graduate. though not graduating this semester, we were able to take caed 500. it taught us different things like writing resume, cover letter and gave us a bit of tips on how to prepare for the real world.

first impression.

an easy subject; some of my friends were able to enroll caed 500 last semester, allowing us who enrolled this semester to have the briefest idea what it was. they said it was pretty easy: we only had to attend 10 meetings the whole term, although we shall not be absent in at least one day. we must also attend the seminars and the culmination at the end of the term.

my experience.

caed 500 was indeed easy. no sweat and chill, unlike the rest of the subject i've taken this semester which pretty much requires 100% of my attention. the only thing that was difficult was that our schedule was at 7AM, which was only good since there were only 10 meetings. sadly though, our meetings were extended since we haven't completed the required assessments for our component A. we also had two seminars, teaching us how to write cover letters and resume, preparing for a job interview and giving us tips on how to ace a job interview. the second seminar we had was very nerve racking. why? an interview was to be conducted in front, like a mock interview. the reason why it was nerve racking to the highest level was the presence of microphone and a large number of audience. THANKFULLY, i was not one of those who were called in front. THANKFULLY!

culmination proper.

the culmination, which happened on the 13th of january, 2017, marks the end of caed 500 (unless, most probably, if you have an NG). we had a resource speaker from jobstreet and before starting, she asked few questions about their company, giving prize to the ones who got the correct answers. and here comes an embarrassing moment:
speaker: what southeast asian countries, except malaysia, does jobstreet serve?
friend #1: /looks at phone/ japan, india. go go!
friend #2: /goes to front, answers/ japan, india?????
speaker: near, but a little lower
and that is how we learned geography during the seminar because despite living in a southeast asian country, i never really cared who our neighboring countries are. not until now. but despite that embarrassment, we were able to surpass the day with smiles on our faces.

we were able to learn a lot from our resource speaker (which i will be sharing later), and also have fun especially when they chose the headturner of the day or say the person with the best business attire. they had a question and answer portion aaaaannnddddd students from our college won (yeyyyy!)

things i learned.

  • the importance of writing you OWN cover letter
  • why i should start my own jobstreet account
  • what to do and what not to do during job interviews
  • tips on how to answer questions during job interview
  • becoming more professional online
  • the qualities i should and should not possess
  • top jobs and top paying jobs in the philippines
  • that japan and india are in asia but not in southeast asia

snap! snap!

an accountant in the making

after the seminar, we had bit of picture takings. i lolololove the one on the left because (i think) it makes me look like a professional. which i am not... YET!

verdict.

caed 500 is an really great subject despite it being the shortest one compared to all other subjects we had. it taught us a lot, and i really hope that i would be able to apply all when i get to the real world. i'm so happy and i feel privileged taking up this subject because in the opening remarks, it was mentioned that our school is the only one that offers this subject.
one last thing: i really hope i would graduate this march! ♥

Xo, n.
